The Pleasure Craft Can Be The Recreation Investment Of A Lifetime

By Adriana Noton

Boating is a sport enjoyed by many young and old alike. There are not many things that can compare to enjoying a day on the water, boating, fishing, or skiing. A pleasure craft is an essential part of summer recreation for many people and suitable for the entire family. Boating doesn't necessarily require a tremendous investment as there are large and small water craft that can fit almost any budget and purpose.

While a yacht might be nice for open water and desired by many, the largest boat for leisure activities is not always the best suited for the particular sport or purpose. A small boat with a trolling motor is all that many avid fisherman want or need. The quiet motor and low hull allow them to get in close to the shore and fish without frightening their quarry away.

No matter the purpose or size of the boat there are boating laws which govern the operation of the craft. Boat operators are required to display competency and knowledge in boating safety and to obtain a craft operator card in many locations. A boating license is required in most areas and by obtaining one, the operator proves they understand the rules and regulations that apply to their type of boat.

There are many more recreational boats on the water now because of the increase in boating for pleasure. It is even more important now, with more crowded waterways that the operators of these crafts understand the different laws and safety requirements applicable to them. Different type of crafts may require different licenses but the most frequently seen is the pleasure craft boat operator license.

Boating can be an exciting, relaxing, thrilling, soothing, sport or experience if the boat operator understands and obeys the laws. A competent operator will understand not only just how many life jackets must be present on board but how many people their craft will hold. Any licensed operator will also know who has the right of way in any situation and what the speed limit is.

Boating laws bring order into what might otherwise be a chaotic highway with no traffic lanes or signals. Learning the rules of the water and basic boat safety give any operator the confidence to deal with almost any situation on the water. A license is simply physical proof the operator understands the laws and regulations and has displayed competency.

A pleasure boat might cost anywhere from a few hundred dollars to many thousands of dollars. Most boaters feel that investment is well worth it because of the hours of enjoyment derived from this sport. On the other hand, with all the money spent on the craft the few hours of time invested in boat classes and the license seem a small price to pay for safety.

Whether a boater chooses to enjoy the water inland on quiet lakes or skiing, or elects for the open water and seaways the competent operator who knows the laws assures that the boat and the passengers arrive back on land safely. A boat license and the knowledge to operate the craft safely learned through boating course only makes sense when considering the human cargo boats carry. - 42634
